Town & Country Landscaping of Rogers is now accepting resumes/applications for the position of Driver/Athletic Field Construction Equipment Operator

Looking for an Assistant that:
+ Has a CDL License; or willing to get one.
+ Has a medical card.
+ Clean Driving Record.
+ No Recreational Drug Use.
+ Must be on time and diligent.
+ Has background or willing to learn to operate tractors with equipment used to construct or reconstruct athletic fields, golf courses, along with larger scaled residential lots.
+ Work would involve soil grading, preparation for seed and or sod, along with grading and shaping aglime ballfields. Assisting in applying soil corrections. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. 
+ It is a full time seasonal position April 1 to Freeze up. 

There is no hardscaping involved; eg. No installation of retaining walls, pavers etc. We only work with the soils and turf.
It is a fun and enjoyable job, with something new every day. Small crew with top notch equipment.

BALLFIELD ATTENDANT
This job assignment serves in a public relations capacity and will perform a variety of daily maintenance activities at one or more of the City's community athletic sites. Locations include Northview Park, Goat Hill Park, Rahn Athletic Park, Lexington/Diffley and Ohmann Park. The primary responsibility will be to ensure that park facilities are ready for team and spectator use. 

PARK ATTENDANT                  
This job assignment will serve in a public relations capacity and will perform a variety of daily maintenance activities at one or more of the city's community parks. Primary responsibilities will be to ensure that park facilities are ready for group and individual use. 
 
PARKS LABORER
This job assignment will assist with the maintenance of athletic fields, park grounds, winter rinks and buildings (ex. mowing parks and grounds, lining and striping athletic fields, etc).

Essential Position Functions: Portray a positive image of the city to the public, specifically athletic facility patrons; prepare infields prior to scheduled games; inspect and prepare park grounds including litter pickup, emptying waste and recycling containers; perform daily and ongoing cleaning of park shelter buildings and maintain supplies in an organized manner; perform occasional turf maintenance activities such as trimming fence lines, overseeding bare spots, etc.; ensure that park facilities are ready for use by team players, coaches, umpires, and the general public on a daily basis; communicate information about facilities and parks to park patrons, including city ordinances relating to public use of park and recreation facilities; ensure park facilities are prepared for group and individual use; perform janitorial duties in park shelter buildings, and sun shelters,  including cleaning and sanitizing of public restrooms, using chemical cleaning compounds as required; post legibly and accurately information concerning group reservations, announcements and other information dealing with programs and facilities; open and close park buildings and pavilions.

Ability to perform any combination of the following duties: Maintain softball and baseball infields; mowing and trimming of park grounds and athletic fields; assisting in construction of park improvements: play equipment, landscaping, recreation facilities; litter and refuse maintenance; building maintenance; athletic field striping; general parks facility maintenance; assistance with preparations for recreation programs or special events; miscellaneous tasks related to maintenance and development of park and recreation area.

Ability to safely operate the following equipment: Front-mount rotary mowers; tractors; trailers; athletic striping machine; weed trimmers; hand mowers; miscellaneous power tools; pickup trucks or one-ton trucks and other park related equipment.

Other Position Functions: Assist in other park operations/maintenance functions as assigned and complete other duties as apparent or assigned.

Employees are required to work outdoors, in all weather conditions, including rain, cold, heat or any other conditions experienced during the months of April-October

POSITION SUMMARY:  This position will be responsible for assisting with a variety of forestry and landscaping related tasks including ground preparation, planting, mulching, tree trimming and removal, watering, fertilizing and general maintenance.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Ability to perform any combination of the following duties: Pruning and care of shade and ornamental trees and shrubs; Assisting with installation of park landscape plantings; Removal of dead trees from public property; Clearing and brushing work for new parks and trails; Chipping brush; Mulching and irrigating trees; Assist with prairie management, and Assisting with Tree Inventory Program.

2. Ability to safely operate the following equipment: Chain saw; Skidster loader; Small tractor or loader with various attachments|, Brush chipper, Tree spade; Variety of hand tools, and other forestry related equipment.

POSITION SUMMARY:  This position will be responsible for assisting in the coordination of the City of Eagan's Shade Tree Disease Program.  Duties to include: the inspection and identification of Oak wilt and Dutch elm infected trees on public and private property, the coordination of control efforts, dissemination of information and considerable public contact.
 
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Ability to perform any combination of the following duties: Coordination of all phases of the city's Shade Tree Disease program including identification, notification, compliance inspection, record keeping, contractual removal and disposal. Inspection of woodpiles. Interpretation of aerial photography for the detection of diseased tree infection centers. Assistance with macro-infusion of systemic fungicides to control the spread of oak wilt and Dutch elm disease. Communication and public contact as it relates to the program. Provision of informational services regarding general inquiries related to forestry. Preparation of educational articles and direct involvement in promotion of the Shade Tree Disease program. Assistance in the preparation of technical reports.

2. Ability to safely operate the following equipment: Chain saw; Chipper; Variety of hand tools including hand pruner and pole pruner, An extension or step ladder.

OTHER POSITION FUNCTIONS:
Assist Supervisor of Forestry in various forestry tasks; Attend schools and seminars to keep abreast of current research and information relating to tree pests and diseases, care and maintenance; Assist other city departments as assigned; Attend public events to shore information and answer questions, and other duties as apparent or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to perform all the essential position functions; must possess a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Tree Inspector license at time of hiring; must have valid Driver’s License; must have the ability to communicate effectively and deal tactfully with property owners, the general public, and other City employees, must have knowledge of various biotic and abiotic tree disorders, including oak wilt and Dutch elm symptoms; must be physically capable of performing the assigned tasks and be willing to work in a variety of weather conditions; must be neatly groomed and willing to wear and maintain a city issue uniform; must be at least 18 years old, and must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

POSITION SUMMARY: This position will assist with both the installation and maintenance of woody and herbaceous plant material within the city park system and on City grounds. Duties may include ground preparation, mulching, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, watering, edging, and hand mowing. 
 
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Ability to perform any combination of the following duties: Assist in the installation of trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and native grasses; provide a high level of continual maintenance for planting beds and garden areas; share information with the public as opportunities/questions arise in the work environment; assist with park landscape planting (shrubs & perennials) inventory program.

2. Ability to safely operate the following equipment: Variety of hand tools including shovels, rakes, hoes, hand and pole pruners and saws; variety of power tools including roto-tiller, sod cutter, hedge trimmer, brush cutter, and lawnmower; herbicide/fertilizer application related equipment (i.e. backpack pump sprayer)

REPORTS TO:  Park Operations Supervisor
POSITION SUMMARY:  Temporary, seasonal position. Outgoing, independent staff is needed to assist with the supervision, coordination and provision of park and facility maintenance and customer service efforts. Applicant should have excellent customer service skills, grounds and/or building maintenance experience and the ability to work out of doors.  Hours will include evenings, weekends, holidays as determined by schedules and need. Flexible start and end dates between May-September. Work hours are approximately 28-32 hours per week. 
 
Essential Position Functions:

           Provide onsite direction to seasonal staff involved with:  park, athletic field and facility maintenance, tournaments, reservations, special events.

Ensure a high level of customer service and the sustainability of high quality grounds and facilities.|

Make contact with on-site facility users, athletic tournament directors and special event managers to coordinate schedules and ensure maintenance and service needs are being met.

Respond and coordinate a response to immediate or anticipated needs of users and participants.|

Monitor compliance park rules and regulations; ensure safety protocols are being followed by staff and users.
·         Assist with the hiring, training and orientation of seasonal staff.

Primary Objective

Perform a wide variety of semi-skilled tasks involving the maintenance, repair, and construction of parks, trails, open space, and related recreation facilities and equipment.

 

Major Areas of Accountability 

·         Performs turf maintenance in and around park, trail and recreational facilities.

Primary Objective

To assist the Forester in providing technical, professional, and advisory services to residents and city personnel regarding forestry and horticulture and assist in a variety of technical activities designed to promote and maintain a healthy urban forest ecosystem.

Major Areas of Accountability 

·         Provides the public and city personnel with technical and professional guidance related to controlling Shade Tree Diseases (DED & Oak Wilt) and hazardous trees on public and private property within the city.  Emphasis is placed on maintaining positive relationships with city residents.

·         Responds to public requests for information regarding trees and shrubs.

·         Assists in reforestation efforts.

·         Assists in maintaining GIS inventory including:

·         Keeps immediate supervisor promptly informed of developments in areas of accountability to foster well-coordinated program efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

·         Must have completed one year of course work in Urban Forestry, Horticulture or related field.

Interacts in a customer friendly manner with Yard Waste Site users.

·         Verify customers of the yard waste site are residents of Plymouth, Long Lake, Medicine Lake or Wayzata.

·         Use iPad to document Yard Waste Site use.

·         Verify whether user brought in leaves and/or brush/logs and how much.

·         Verify whether user would be taking chips or mulch and how much.

 
Perform inspection of incoming material to Yard Waste Site.                                    

·         Visually monitor incoming materials being disposed of to ensure that only yard waste is being received and that foreign items are not co-mingled.


Maintains a clean, organized, safe and welcoming Yard Waste Site.

·         Directs users to appropriate location to dispose of materials.

·         Verifies that the piles get pushed back at the beginning and end of each shift.

·         Safety is a high priority, verify that the site is free of hazards for customers.

The Weed Inspector responds to nuisance vegetation complaints and follows up to ensure compliance with City Code section 807.

Major Areas of Accountability 

·         Keep accurate records of nuisance vegetation complaints.

o    Answer all correspondences (phone calls, emails, etc.)

o    Maintain spreadsheet of each complaint.

·         Inspect nuisance vegetation complaints.

o    Identify noxious weeds, prohibited plants and rank vegetation.

o    Notify property owners of situations requiring abatement via letter.

o    Record details in spreadsheet.

·         Issue force cut notice to contractor for properties not in compliance.

o    Provide maps and details.

o    Follow up inspections after contractor invoicing.

o    Create requests for invoice to the non-compliant property owners.

Assist building staff and other maintenance and building staff with maintaining the outside facilities.  Maintain truck inventory and department equipment in a safe and efficient manner.  Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Buildings & Grounds or designee.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent, plus 5 years of varied experience in grounds maintenance and turf care.  Knowledgeable in the operation and function of grounds equipment.  Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures.  Ability to understand and observe oral and written instructions.  Ability to read, understand, and follow architectural, mechanical, schematic, electric, etc. drawings. Motivated self-starter; well-organized and efficient; ability to work with minimum supervision and direction.
